My
Story

My name is Emily and I opened Bold Communications, an all-services public relations boutique, in 2022.

I am a mother of two wild and hilarious young boys, residing in the Northern California Foothills. I grew up in a small agricultural community, just outside of Sacramento. I relocated to the foothills approximately 11 years ago when I started my little family. We enjoy everything our community has to offer - from its Gold Rush and agricultural roots, to the mountain scenery and hiking trails. Most of all, we love the freedom and endless opportunities we have here!

My career in marketing and event management began 14 years ago, at the El Dorado County Fair and Event Center. I learned the details that go into large-scale event planning, working with a variety of vendors, what consumers most enjoyed, and how to spread the word about events in traditional and digital media spaces. When I first started graphic design, I was using Microsoft Publisher!

I later pursued a career in law enforcement, working for the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office, Investigations Division. Among a myriad of duties, I was responsible for writing and disseminating press releases, organizing press conferences, creating social media content, and graphic design. It was there that I discovered my passion for government and law enforcement communications and after five years, I decided to create my own path - Bold Communications.

Since opening my virtual doors in 2022, I have contracted with government agencies, non-profit organizations, and local businesses. I helped them navigate, and often create, their own digital space - giving their voices credibility and an audience in a sea of content.

As a result of my education at Arizona State University and in my networking around Northern California, I started a blog to share my knowledge and experience with others. I write about topics that cover social media, networking, public relations strategies, and digital media literacy.

Digital media literacy is a subject that caught my attention while studying at ASU. Dan Gillmor, a professor there, taught me the importance of media literacy both as a consumer and creator. Since then, I have continued blogging my opinions and lessons learned here in hopes of sparking interest in you, dear reader.

I took those lessons learned outside the digital space, and taught a semester of digital media literacy to local high school students. My hopes were educating consumers and creators at a young age, when they are most vulnerable to misinformation and disinformation.

If anything I blog about here catches your eye, I am always open to continuing the conversation directly. Feel free to send me a message or drop a comment on the blog - and don't forget to subscribe!
